Communiqué



A military motor vehicle, which had been carrying four members of the Serbian Armed Forces on regular assignment in the Ground Safety Zone, crashed this morning at around 9.30 in the village of Drenovac near Vranje.

The man who had been driving the vehicle, Senior Sergeant 1st Class Branislav Kovačević from the First Army Brigade, was killed in the crash, whereas the other three members of the Serbian Armed Forces received non-life-threatening injuries. They received medical attention at the health centre in Vranje.

Military police officers, the Deputy Senior Public Prosecutor of Vranje and members of the Ministry of the Interior have arrived at the scene. An inquiry is underway.

Senior Sergeant 1st Class Branislav Kovačević was born on May 2, 1975. He was an active member of the Serbian Armed Forces since July 20, 1996. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, have sent letters of condolence to Sergeant Kovačević’s family, following his tragic death.
