Day of the Military Intelligence Agency marked



Military Intelligence Agency (VOA) celebrated its day – 6 May, in the Guards House in Top?ider. The ceremony was attended by Serbian President Boris Tadi?, Defence Minister Dragan Šutanovac, ministers in the Government of Serbia, Serbian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Miloje Mileti?, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, religious communities, defence attachés accredited in Serbia and numerous guests.

Welcoming the audience, the Acting Director of VOA, Brigadier General Dragan Vladisavljevi?, stressed that “Military Intelligence Agency today is a modern organization whose members are characterized by professionalism, education, expertise and motivation.”

General Vladisavljevi? said that VOA, as a modern foreign-intelligence service of the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Serbia, performs the intelligence function for the purpose of defence of the state contributing, through a network of defence missions to strengthening bilateral military cooperation and presenting the state and the Armed Forces abroad.

“In the past year we have achieved good results”, General Vladisavljevi? said and added that the Military Intelligence Agency in the future, with the utmost professional commitment, will make every effort to accomplish its tasks and contribute to the security of Serbia in the best possible way.

Military Intelligence Agency marks its day on 6th May, which dates back in 1920 when the Regulation on the General Staff and General Staff profession of the Kingdom of Serbs Croats and Slovenes entered into force, by which the Intelligence Department of the General Staff was formed. This was the first time since the establishment of modern military in our area, that the intelligence function was separated as a special organizational unit.
