Training with self-propelled artillery systems

Professional members of Army brigades’ artillery battalions, armed with 122mm 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers, have started a new cycle of routine training.
The purpose of the training, which is taking place on the training grounds and exercise areas, is for artillerymen to maintain and improve their skills in carrying out tactical combat actions and providing fire support to Army evolution units.

At this training stage, howitzer crews are practicing tactical actions on the move, gun emplacement and displacement, as well as delivering and adjusting artillery fire. In this way, soldiers and officers are refreshing their knowledge of the tactics of unit employment, and the newly-admitted soldiers are gaining the required level of tactical skill, so that they can embark on more complex forms of training.

This training cycle ends with a life-fire tactical exercise which will test the crews’ ability to perform specific tasks assigned to them.
The 122mm 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer is intended for the destruction and neutralization of manpower and adversarial artillery weapons, demolition of strong points, wire and other obstacles, making passages through mine fields, illumination of the battlefield and creating smokescreens. As such, it plays a critical role in the execution of offensive and defensive SAF operations.
