Minister Vučević visits 63rd Parachute Brigade

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević visited today the 63rd Parachute Brigade at the “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović” barracks in Niš.
The unit commander, Brigadier General Nenad Zonić, briefed Minister Vučević about the tasks awaiting the 63rd Parachute Brigade in the coming period and about soldier training conducted in that brigade. The minister was accompanied on the visit by Head of Intelligence and Reconnaissance Department, Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Brigadier General Miroljub Čupić and the commander of the 98th Air Brigade, Colonel Dragan Mrdak.

The Minister of Defence expressed his conviction that the Serbian Armed Forces were strong, well-trained and capable of defending our country and its citizens. He was able to confirm that the 63rd Parachute Brigade, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary next year, has deservedly earned the epithet of a “glorious, heroic and highly decorated brigade”.
- Crowned by success and victories in battles and fights, but also deeply indebted to its fallen members who laid down their lives on the territory of former Yugoslavia. Not only in Kosovo and Metohija, but throughout Yugoslavia, because this unit fought battles throughout the former country, and those people must never be forgotten, they deserve to be remembered, said Minister Vučević.

He is particularly pleased that Brigade members work with soldiers who are doing their voluntary military service, and that those young people can feel the pride of being a member of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, of wearing a burgundy beret and being part of that "big, celebrated family, because the 63rd Parachute Brigade enjoys the reputation of being much more than just an ordinary unit".
  - Today we also talked about the problems, that is, the challenges and everything that the unit needs in order to continue providing the personnel with the best, most effective training, in order to have better trained brigade members. We have a lot of work to do, we will not be able to do everything right away, but we can definitely set the wheels in motion, said the Minister of Defence.

He said that the 63rd Parachute Brigade, along with the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, would be in charge of carrying out the 5,000 Special Forces Project ordered by the President of the Republic - and that the 63rd Parachute Brigade must enhance its infrastructure facilities and equipment to be able to admit new members.
- I am proud of them and all members of the Serbian Armed Forces. This month, they will get a 25-percent salary increase, and I believe that when we finish the 5,000 Special Forces Project, their salaries will be much higher, said Minister Vučević and congratulated all members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade for everything they have been doing for years.

The Minister of Defence observed the training of professional members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade and soldiers who are doing voluntary military service in that unit. They demonstrated packing a parachute, preparations for a parachute jump, classic and special parachute landing, an attack on an occupied building, as well as martial arts and rope-climbing training.
The Minister of Defence also visited the 63rd Parachute Brigade’s Memorial Room and signed the guest book, saying that we pay great respect to all the heroes who gave their lives for our homeland, Serbia.

Minister Vučević also met with the mayor of Niš, Dragana Sotirovski.
