President of Republic and Supreme Commander of Serbian Armed Forces Extends Greetings on Military Veterans’ Day

Today, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić extended greetings on the occasion of 4th December - Military Veterans’ Day - which reads:

"I extend greetings to all military veterans on the occasion of 4th December - Military Veterans’ Day.

Military Veterans’ Day was established in memory of the day when truce was signed in the First Balkan War. Continuing the tradition of old warriors of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, by selecting this date as Military Veterans’ Day, continuity was ensured with the veterans from 1912, when the Kingdom of Serbia, as a modern state, engaged part of its population in war together with financial reserves and created the Balkan Alliance with its neighbours.

We are grateful to all generations of our warriors who left their homes and land to put on their honourable uniforms and defend what we today consider to be the most holy. Our entire history was a long and painstaking path to freedom and the fight for its preservation. Our soldiers, regardless of centuries in which they lived and defended their hearts, walked the paths of victory so that Serbia could rise again, proud and free, like it has always been. You are the pride of this country and people, a role model to generations which respect courage, patriotism, and dignity with which the uniform and coat of arms of Serbia are worn.

We continue fighting for Serbia following those footsteps, but now we do it in a different way, so that you can see that your sacrifices and efforts were not in vain, so that you know that all our children have the future in a free, sovereign country, which is developing and making progress fast.

Owing to you who are here, and those who are sadly no more, we are free people today, and it is precisely why it is our duty not only to revive the memory and pay homage to brave warriors and heroes, participants of all wars and combat actions for the liberation of Serbia, but to show that we care about military veterans in all areas of life and work.

I congratulate this jubilee to you promising that Serbia will never falter in the fight for better tomorrow, forever remembering and bowing to the sacrifices that you made”.
