Engineering Training in Overcoming Water Obstacles
A part of the Sava River near Šabac is the location where regular training is conducted for members of the First Pontoneer Battalion of the River Flotilla during which they practice the execution of tasks in line with the use of this unit.
The purpose of the training is to maintain a high level of competence of professional members in providing operational support to combat forces while executing operations in the area of inland waterways.
In keeping with the training programme, they practice tactical actions and procedures while organising ferry, bridge and landing locations for crossing and transporting assets by amphibious transporters, with the use of measures for immediate unit protection. At the same time they check the standardised actions and stipulated standards to install ferries out of floating segments and efficiently overcome water obstacles.
The execution of this training and incessant professional advancement in pontoneer battalions of the River Flotila ensures a high level of competence of unit members, which, together with the serviceability of equipment, is the most important precondition for efficient execution of engineering actions on river.
