The First Winter World Military Games Closed



The First Winter World Military Games, where the Serbian military athletes also took part, were held in the Italian ski resort centre Vale d 'Aosta from 20 to 25 March.

At this big military sports event the Serbian team was headed by the Chief of the Serbian Delegation to CISM, State Secretary Zoran Jefti?. Our athletes competed in the alpine disciplines (slalom and giant slalom) and Nordic disciplines (biathlon, cross country and ski orienteering).

Having in mind that there were fifty-six members of the armed forces from forty-two countries, members of CISM – participants in the last Olympic Games in Vancouver, who took part in the Winter Military Games, winning the third place in slalom for men (bronze medal) and the fifth place in the giant slalom by our team is one of the largest successes, not only for the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, but also for the alpine skiing in Serbia.

Radmila ?uri? also achieved high ranking taking the tenth place in slalom, in the the women's competition, out of thirty competitors (25 with rating FIS).

In the final standings, the Serbian military team got the sixteenth place among forty-two teams, which is an excellent result, given that eighty percent of military athletes who competed in the games consisted of competitors with FIS points.

The First Winter World Military Games closed in place Courmayeur – Aosta on 25 March.
