Exhibition on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Military Academy



State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Igor Jovi?i? opened the exhibition on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Military Academy at the Military Museum at Kalemegdan today. On this occasion, the General Manager of “PTT Serbia” Goran ?iri? presented the jubilee postage stamp that was created in honour of this high military education institution. The ceremony was attended by the Commandant of the Military Academy, Brigadier General Mladen Vuruna as well as numerous guests.

Secretary of State Jovi?i? recalled the importance and the position that the Military Academy has, not only for military but for the country as a whole. He said that the magnitude of an institution is assessed by the conditions in which it emerged and paved the ways of its own affirmation.

- Today's Military Academy, on its 160-year long way, passed through the ordeal, sharing the fate of the people, state and the military –Jovi?i? said recalling the rich history and development of the Academy. According to his words, the Military Academy today is a contemporary military education institution, and its integration with the institutions of higher education in Serbia is an important task of the Serbian state leadership.

- Goran ?iri? said that the Post Offices of Serbia have the honour to present the Military Academy with a stamp marking such an important and big jubilee. He said that the Academy in its 160 years of existence proved that it survived only together with its people, and that the Post Office wanted to give tribute to this institution and those who after completing it gave their lives for the country by a jubilee stamp with specific motives on it.

The director of the Military Museum Colonel Miroslav Kneževi? said that this exhibition is a contribution of this establishment to marking the jubilee of the Military Academy. He has presented the author of the exhibition Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Mijatovi?, as well as the institutions and companies that helped in its organization.

The Military Museum presented for the first time the document “Organisation of the Artillery School” which is stored in the Serbian Archives. Visitors will have opportunity until 25 April to see the exhibition of documents, weapons, cadet uniforms and other items that testify to the 16 decades of the Academy. There is also the original sabre of General Franjo Zah, as well as the one that is awarded to the best young second lieutenants by the President of the Republic at their promotion.
