Seminar on International Humanitarian Law



Head of the Training and Doctrine Department of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Major General Peter ?ornakov opened the seminar “International Humanitarian Law” at the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations today. The lecturer at the seminar was Lieutenant-colonel Jérôme Cario, a French specialist in military law.

The seminar is attended by thirty members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, a representative of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of Red Cross and representatives of the Faculty of Political Sciences.

The aim of the seminar is to familiarize with the provisions of international humanitarian law and the ways of applying the provisions in military education and training of the armed forces of the Republic of France

Addressing the participants of the seminar, General ?ornakov said that the French experience will be of great benefit in applying the provisions of international humanitarian law in the training of the Serbian armed forces, but also in the integration of the international humanitarian law into the legal order of the state.

During the seminar, Lieutenant-colonel Cario will give a lecture on international humanitarian law, implementation of the international humanitarian law in training cadets and officers, but also on the rules of engagement and the chain of command responsibility in respecting the provisions of international humanitarian law.
