Visit of the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces



Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Mladen ?irkovi? met with the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces Brigadier Branimir Furlan, who is in visit to the Republic of Serbia from 24 to 26 March. The meeting was held in the building of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff in Belgrade.

Lieutenant Colonel ?irkovi? and Brigadier Furlan discussed the improvement of bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia.

- During the meeting, we discussed the situation in the region, processes, tasks and missions that characterize the current moment in our armies. We discussed the possibility to establish, in addition to the existing forms and levels of cooperation, also the cooperation in other areas of common interest. Our goal is a common – stability of the region, contributing to the wellbeing and preventing everything that may threaten the security and peaceful life of citizens – said General ?irkovi?.

- Brigadier Furlan said that today's meeting is one of the forms of cooperation in the region, which directly manifests the contribution of the two armies to confidence building in the region. According to him, the talks confirmed that there are great opportunities for further cooperation.

- We have common processes going on, such as transformation, professionalisation of the military and participation in international operations. There is mutual interest to help each other and to learn from each other, or to do things together – the guest from Slovenia said adding that this visit is the opportunity for him to meet with members of the Slovenian Armed Forces working in the NATO Military Liaison Office in Belgrade, and who are involved in helping the reform of the defence system.
