The first Winter Military World Games opened
The first Winter Military World Games, where the Serbian athletes are also participating, were officially opened in the Italian ski resort centre of Valle D'Aosta, on Saturday, in the presence of numerous high-ranking guests from Italy, heads of delegations and about 1,000 members of the armed forces from 40 countries, members of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
Military athletes from the Republic of Serbia competed in giant slalom in the Italian ski resort of Valle D'Aosta on Sunday, 21 March. They entered the competition with fifty-five participants from fifteen countries, thirty-nine of them being categorized with FIS points (20 participants from the last Olympics in Vancouver, and the gold medal winner in slalom in Vancouver, Giuliano Raccoli).
In the general placement the winner was the French competitor Adrien Theaux, and our athletes have achieved the following placements - Vladislav Mandi? – the thirty-first, Milos Šumarac – the thirty-eighth, and Darko Jeremi?, the thirty-ninth position.
The sports mission of the Republic of Serbia at this important international military sports event, which is held for the first time since the founding of CISM (in 1948) to date, consists of sixteen members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. Military athletes of the Republic of Serbia, professional commissioned and non-commissioned officers, cadets, active and reserve soldiers, will compete in alpine programme (slalom and giant slalom) and Nordic disciplines (ski orienteering, cross country and biathlon) in men's and women's competition.
They will compete with members of the armed forces from fifty countries, fifty-six of them being the winners of medals at the recently concluded Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
