Awards on the occasion of the Military Academy Day

On the occasion of the Military Academy Day – 18th March and the 160-year anniversary of the military education, prizes were awarded to doctors and masters who defended their dissertations and master theses in that scientific and educational institution between the two holidays.

Congratulating on the feast to all the members of the largest military education institution in the country, the Commandant of the Military Academy, Brigadier General Mladen Vuruna, PhD, stressed that the 160-year long tradition of military education is a rare occasion even globally.

- A small school established within the factory in Kragujevac 160 years ago become nowadays an institution with capacities and resources for superior teaching, guaranteeing the best training of cadets, officers to be, for all the three missions of the Serbian Armed Forces – General Vuruna said.

- It is not sufficient to wait for the future to come, but we need to move towards it. Therefore, in the period to come we are to complete and consolidate the reform process. All the tasks that are ahead of us are in terms of the most important objective for all of us – professionalization of the Serbian Armed Forces. It anticipates not only hiring people who will be soldiers, but also training of cadets who are to stand one day before the ranks of professional soldiers.

Among the future goals, the Commandant of the Military Academy mentioned also the reorganization of the National Defence School and establishment of the University of Defence. General Vuruna said that the results of the Military Academy are the product of many years of work and thanked to its current and previous members, the supporting logistics, cadets and Military High School students, as well as the students of the School of National Defence for their work and reputation they built for generations.

The Commandant of the Military Academy presented awards to six PhDs and eight MAs who defended their doctoral dissertations and papers in the previous period.

The highlight of the celebration and awards ceremony was the choir of the Military Academy students, who performed the national anthem “Boze pravde (God of Justice)” as well as a young artist, the student of the Academy of Music who sang the song “Poletese ptice lastavice (Flying Swallows)”.
