Soliders fight floods in Zajecar
Soldiers and commanders of the Training Center in Zajecar were deployed yesterday in defending the area from floods in the flood-ridden settlements of Visnjar, Pizur, and Muljak.The White Timok River was suddenly swollen due to sudden melting of the snow thus endangering the outskirts of the town of Zajecar where the inhabitants are already being evacuated.
In the words of Lt. Col. Jena Radic, deputy commander of the Zajecar Training center the soldiers were engaged on filling sand bags to secure the levies on the river and two military vehicles were placed at disposal for evacuation of people and property in the most endangered locations in the town and the vicinity. Additional five military vehicles were sent yesterday afternoon due to very adverse situation to help evacuate the local population.
More than thirty soldiers and commanders have been engaged by the order of the SAF CHOD and upon the request of the Zajecar Contingency Operations HQ which declared the state of emergency due to floods.
