International course on protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations

An international course on the protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations, organized by the Serbian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Operations Centre, has started today at the “South” base near Bujanovac.

The Peacekeeping Operations Centre is certified to deliver this five-day course by the UN Integrated Training Service and the course participants will be trained to implement the “protection of civilians” concept in United Nations peacekeeping operations in accordance with the mission-specific mandate and rules of engagement.
The program includes theory classes on the current challenges and priorities in peacekeeping operations, United Nations concepts and standards in the protection of civilians, and practicing standard procedures in situations where the lives of civilians in the area of operations are directly threatened.

This course is a confirmation of the Serbian Armed Forces’ determination to take all necessary measures for the protection of civilians when deploying units to multinational operations, which is one of essential tasks in the United Nations missions.
