Military Geographical Institute Day marked

A ceremony was held today at the "General Stevan Bošković" Military Geographical Institute in Belgrade to mark the anniversary of this research institution and the Serbian Armed Forces Geodetic Service Day.

During the celebration held at the Institute’s headquarters, the most significant work results achieved by this institution in 2021 were presented and the most deserving individuals were presented with awards. The review of last year’s results emphasized the personnel’s commitment and professional approach to performing geo-topographic security tasks, and their contribution to the research and development and production activities in the field of geodesy, cartography and geographic information systems.

The Military Geographical Institute Day and the Geodetic Service Day are marked in memory of February 5, 1876, when the decision was made to form the Serbian Army General Staff, which included a division conducting geodetic survey of Serbia for military purposes. On that day, the military geodetic service became a separate service in the Serbian Armed Forces for the first time.
