Ministry of Defence representatives attend discussion forum “Learn about legal institutions in the right (legal) way”



A discussion forum entitled "Learn about legal institutions in the right (legal) way" was held at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade as part of the project launched by the Student Association for International Cooperation.

Representatives of the Human Resources Sector, Legal Department and the Defence Policy Sector, Ministry of Defence, participated in the forum, and in addition to more than 20 student participants, other members of the student organization were able to participate via video conference.  The aim of the forum was to familiarize law students, young lawyers, and interested students attending other related faculties with the work of the Ministry of Defence, and particularly with the topics such as the religious affiliations and ethnic backgrounds of members of the Serbian Armed Forces and representation of ethnic minorities, scholarship opportunities for law students and employment opportunities with the Ministry of Defence, potential introduction of “Civil Defence” as a compulsory or optional subject in schools, introduction and a model of compulsory military service and reinforcing the reserve, enrolling lawyers in reserve officers courses and recruiting them into the armed forces, responsibilities of the military court, international military cooperation and participation of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations.
 
The forum was characterized by a constructive dialogue, in which representatives of the Ministry of Defence informed the participants about the above-mentioned topics, and the questions the students asked were related to employment in the Ministry and the Serbian Armed Forces, scholarships, and requirements for applying for civilian positions and professional military service.

Students’ impressions about the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and about the equipping and strengthening the Serbian Armed Forces were positive.
