Nearly 1,400 service members provided with housing this year

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD said today that 1,384 active and retired members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have been provided with housing this year, which is 50 percent more than in previous years. “I hope they wake up every morning calm and with a smile upon their faces, with their loved ones under their own roof, because they fight for this country with all their strength, and they deserve it," said the Minister.

“They deserve to be shown respect for everything they have done and are doing for Serbia. Their mothers and fathers deserve to know that it was worth raising them to be Serbian soldiers, and their wives deserve to know not only about the sacrifices, but also about the advantages of being the wives of heroes and their children deserve to grow up believing that they have a future in their homeland. It is a great pleasure to repay these people for fighting day and night for Serbia. Serbia is able to do that today, because it is getting stronger economically under the leadership of President Aleksandar Vučić, but it is also determined to do that," said Minister Stefanović.
He said that out of nearly 1,400 service members, 964 have been provided with housing through the state housing project, which was launched at the initiative of the President of Serbia, and which includes apartments for members of the security forces at much lower prices than the market price.

"Compared to previous years, when housing was provided for about 750 service members per year, on average, that number is already 50 percent higher, and we expect that about 100 more service members will have roofs over their heads by the end of the year. We have continued to apply other models as well, such as leasing apartments for an indefinite period of time, granting loans to professional military personnel and providing loans to retired military personnel through the SOVO Fund. And we will continue to work even harder on this important aspect of improving the living standards of our personnel, " said the Minister of Defence.

According to him, although soldiers have heard similar promises before, this government is fulfilling its promises, unlike some former ones.

"It promises only what it can fulfil and its claims that people are our most important asset are not idle talk. As I said before - there can be no strong military without satisfied soldiers. That is why the soldiers must be convinced that we fight for them as fiercely as they fight for the peace of mind of all of us and the stability of our homeland," Minister Stefanović pointed out.
