Visit to Hilandar Monastery

The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, is on an official visit to the Hilandar Monastery, accompanied by the Serbian Armed Forces delegation and His Grace, the Military Bishop of Niš Arsenije.

This is the first official visit of a Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff to this monastery on Mt. Athos, which is one of the most important centres of Orthodoxy in the world.
General Mojsilović bowed before the relics and sacred objects in Hilandar and talked to the abbot, Archimandrite Methodius, and the monks. General Mojsilović expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and said that he was deeply honoured to be the first Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff to visit the Holy Mountain and one of the most important spiritual and cultural centres of the Serbian people.

The visit is taking place at a time when the Hilandar Monastery is celebrating the Founder’s Day - the Holy King Milutin. On that day, the Religious Service Day is observed in the Serbian Armed Forces, in memory of November 12, 1839, when an act was passed regulating the military chaplains’ service in the then Serbian army.
