Wreaths laid on the occasion of Armistice Day



On the occasion of the Armistice Day, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces delegations laid wreaths today and paid tribute to the First World War victims.

The Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković, and the Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Lieutenant General Duško Žarković, were accompanied by Suzana Paunović, Secretary General of the President of Serbia, who laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mount Avala.
  The MoD and SAF delegation, led by the Deputy Commander of the Training Command, Brigadier General Nikola Dejanović, laid a wreath at the Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade in the First World War at the New Cemetery as part of the state ceremony to mark the Armistice Day.
As part of the Armistice Day celebration, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces delegation also laid a wreath at the French Military Cemetery, near the Memorial Ossuary to the Russian Soldiers Killed in the First World War and at the Commonwealth Cemetery.

After four years of war, on this day in 1918, at 11 o'clock, the fighting stopped in the Great War. In memory of the millions who died, every year on November 11, at exactly 11 o'clock, tribute is paid to the fallen soldiers, officers and civilians around the world. The Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade testifies to the heroism and suffering of Serbian soldiers in the Great War.
