AF and AD Commander and 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron Received Decorations

Following a successfully completed endeavour of placing the Holy Cross on the mountain top Titerovac, above Mileševa monastery, AF and AD Commander Lieutenant General Duško Žarković received the Order of the White Angel of the first degree, while 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron received the Order of the White Angel of the second degree. The decorations were conferred by Bishop of Mileševa Atanasije Rakita.

Congratulating the members of the armed forces on the completion of this complex task, Bishop Atanasije underlined that the wish of the citizens of Prijepolje for the Holy Cross to be placed above Mileševa monastery would not have been fulfilled if it had not been for the assistance of the Serbian Armed Forces.

- For us, it is the most important that this Holy Cross will be the source of strength and perseverance and a reminder that our life is ascetic and that we do not have any other choice but to lead an ascetic life. This cross will remind us of the true nature of our path, our life – Bishop Atanasije underlined.

Expressing gratitude for the orders, General Živković pointed out that it was an extraordinary honour, and a great obligation as well, not only for him personally but for entire AF and AD.

- The military has always stood by its people and it is an integral part of its people. Is there something more beautiful that participating in one such joint endeavour of church, military and people - General Živković stressed.

Members of 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron of 204th Air Brigade of AF and AD placed yesterday the Holy Cross on the mountain top Titerovac above Mileševa monastery in the vicinity of Prijepolje. A Mi-17 helicopter crew was engaged for this highly complex task, which managed, despite difficult weather conditions and gusts of wind, to place the Holy Cross, which is some 11 metres high weighing 3,800 kilograms, on the mountain top above Mileševa.
