Crucession race



Aleksandar Sokolov, cadet of the Military Academy, is the winner of this year’s traditional Crucession swim race held at Ada Ciganlija.

The traditional crucession race saw 50 contestants including the students of the Military and the Police Academy, members of the Gendarmerie, and athletes…Sokolov is a regular participant, and has won the second place for the last three years.

With the sound of Aleksandar the First march performed by the SAF Guard Orchestra, the keeper of the throne of Serbian Patriarchs Amfilohije Radovic presented Sokolov with the replica of the Holy Cross and a purple mantle.

The race was preceded by the Holy Mass in St. George Church in Banovo Brdo, a residential part of Belgrade, followed by the Crucession (holy procession bearing the cross) which saw the members of the Gendarmerie bearing the Cross of Jerusalem, as well as professors and cadets of the Military Academy and a large number of citizens.

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Religions Bogoljub Sijakovic, Bishop of Hvost, representatives of the City of Belgrade, priests in Cukarica churches, as well as the members of SAF and numerous other citizens.
