Stefanović: I request that responsibility for the explosions be determined

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, told Tanjug today that the most important thing was that no one had been killed in last night's explosion near the "Sloboda" factory in Čačak, but that he would request, nonetheless, that those responsible for two incidents occurring in such a short span time be determined.

"The most important thing is that no one was injured. Factory workers who were slightly injured, received shattered glass injuries and they are recovering," Stefanović said.

The Minister thanked the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the factory staff, ambulance crews and fire and rescue teams, as well as the City of Čačak, who responded in time, evacuated workers and citizens in the vicinity of the factory and prevented major consequences or, God forbid, victims.

Stefanović, who visited the factory last night, thanked, in particular, the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, who were at the scene throughout the night, helping to extinguish the fire, eliminate the possibility of further threat and alleviate the impact of the explosion.

The military, he said, also sent drones during the night to help the firefighters to extinguish the fire as soon as possible, and the depot was emptied to prevent further danger.

"Something like this must not happen again. Two incidents taking place in such a short span of time is inadmissible. I expect the competent authorities to determine the cause of the explosion as soon as possible, so that "Sloboda" could respond and take all necessary measures to prevent this from happening again, and, of course, I request that responsibility for these unpleasant events be determined," Stefanović said.
