Minister Stefanović meets with Italian Chief of Defence Staff



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met today with the Chief of the Defence Staff of Italy, General Enzo Vecciarelli. 

On this occasion, Stefanović pointed out the importance of our joint participation in multinational operations, especially in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and emphasized the Serbian MOD’s commitment to continuing cooperation in key areas, especially in joint military exercises in Serbia and Italy.
 
The Minister thanked General Vecciarelli for the long-term participation of the Italian Armed Forces in KFOR, which was the only guarantor of peace and stability in Kosovo and Metohija, and stressed the importance of the Italian contingent’s involvement in protecting Serbs and Serbian cultural and religious heritage in our southern province.

At the beginning of the meeting, General Vecciarelli conveyed to Stefanović the Italian Defence Minister’s greetings, emphasizing that Serbia was an important factor for stability in the region, adding that the Armed Forces of the Republic of Italy were ready to further develop the military to military cooperation through joint participation in multinational operations and joint exercises.

General Vecciarelli also emphasized Italy’s commitment to continuing its contribution to KFOR mission in Kosovo and Metohija, and praised the professional attitude of Serbian peacekeepers working with the Italian contingent in UNIFIL’s Sector West.

Among other things, the interlocutors pointed out the importance of military-economic cooperation between the two countries and agreed that there was potential for its improvement.
