Conferenece on regional security in Ankara



Undersecretary of MoD Dusan Spasojevic is heading the delegation of MoD which is taking part in the conference “Regional security through regional ownership” which is being held 08-10 December in Ankara. Turkey, in the organization of the RACVIAC center and the Republic of Turkey as the presiding country of the SEECP (South Eastern Europe Cooperation Process).

This conference is organized for the purpose of promoting cooperation and trust in the field of security in the South Eastern Europe. The conference has a special importance in terms of exchanging experiences and discussions on the current challenges and priorities of the countries of South Eastern Europe in the field of regional security.

Undersecretary Spasojevic, who spoke in the introductory part of the conference, stressed that the European future of the region was an only guarantee of permanent regional security and prosperity of SEE.

Recalling the problems which weigh heavily upon the region in terms of security, Spasojevic emphasized that one of the key factors adding to further destabilization of the region is the unilateral and illegal declaration of Kosovo independence.

Serbia is undoubtedly committed to promoting regional cooperation and is a very active member of regional initiatives in the field of security and defense. Its admission as a full member of the SEDM (South Eastern Defense Ministerial) is a confirmation of Serbia’s commitment to becoming a reliable partner within a regional and international security system.

Besides taking part in the conference, Undersecretary of the Serbian MoD also held meetings with his Turkish counterpart LTG Ahmed Turmus and the Undersecretary for Defense Industry Murad Bayar.

The topics of the talks were the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and the security-political situation in the region.
