Gun salute fired to mark Days of Belgrade

The Serbian Armed Forces Guard performed a three-volley gun salute by firing five artillery pieces at Kalemegdan’s Sava Terrace today to mark the Days of Belgrade, which are celebrated from 16 to 19 April.
The Days of Belgrade link two dates in the history of the city - 16 April 878, when the Slavic name of Belgrade is mentioned in historical documents for the first time and 19 April 1867, when the Turkish authorities symbolically handed over the city keys.

The Days of Belgrade are an opportunity for us to remember numerous important events in the turbulent history of the city through a series of events from 16 to 19 April. As many as 115 wars were fought on the territory of Belgrade, and the city was destroyed 44 times. But Belgrade was and remains a symbol of Serbia’s freedom and development and current construction projects in the city show that it is on the path to a better future.
