New Issue of “ODBRANA“

For more than two decades, the first month of spring has brought us sad memories of the victims of the NATO aggression against our country, which began on 24 March 1999. We paid tribute to the heroes of defence this year as well, and the Minister of Defence, Nebojša Stefanović, while visiting the 250th Missile Brigade’s memorial room, pointed out that we must do our best to acquaint our children with the Serbian defence heroes’ exploits and not allow them to forget their heroism. The IN FOCUS section is dedicated to the visit of the State Councilor and Minister of National Defence of the People's Republic of China, General Wei Fenghe, to Serbia. In the first half of March, the Minister of Defence also visited Republika Srpska, where he met with its highest officials. In addition to the details of the visit, this section covers the current defence system events that marked the past month, during which the armed forces, in addition to their regular tasks, demonstrated the usual care for its personnel by handing over the keys to new apartments to 24 members of the defence system.

The April issue opens with an INTERVIEW with Miloš Biković, the actor who had the opportunity to briefly feel the spirit of the Military Academy, the institution that provides education to future officers. In the interview, the young, but already celebrated actor presents his views about patriotism, military honour and “social truths that actors so skilfully present to the audience which is sometimes unwilling to see them".
In the STANDPOINT section, read about the fate of the missing persons in Kosovo and Metohija. The text “Awaiting Justice“ describes the efforts of the Serbian Government's Missing Persons Commission to shed light on the fate of kidnapped and missing persons, and to exhume and identify people killed during the NATO aggression and conflict in the southern Serbian province.

The SYSTEM section opens with a text announcing that Serbia will be one of the hosts of the International Military Games, a festival of strength and skill, for the first time at the end of August and the beginning of September at the "Beranovac" military complex and the "Žiča" firing range. After seven years of continuous participation in the unofficial "Military Olympics", our country will be the organizer of one of its most attractive events. In the same section, read about the Mixed Artillery Brigade’s cold-weather training, but also about the efforts of the Fourth Army Brigade’s Engineer Corps to help the citizens by clearing the snow in the south of Serbia.

An unusual experience of a journalist, who was allowed by the Air Force and Air Defence Command to attend the 714th Anti-Tank Helicopter Squadron’s professional flight training on Mi-35 aircraft at the Morava Airport in Lađevci, has been translated into a vivid text and attractive photographs that will surely attract your attention.

In the SYSTEM section, find out what voluntary military service in the River Flotilla looks like, and read the story about an interesting young man, who has recently become a reserve lieutenant, Andrea Lović. The fact that he was born and lives in Germany, has not prevented this young man from serving his country.

In the MILITARY TECHNIQUE section, our associate Vlade Radulović presents the FK-3 medium-range air defence system. In the GLOBAL (VIEWS) section, read about the accelerated progress of new technologies that could adversely affect the existing balance of power and arms control mechanisms between the United States and the Russian Federation, which announced the completion of all procedures for the extension of the New START treaty at the beginning of February.
In the same thematic area, there is a text by Veljko Blagojević who will introduce you to the main results of the scientific project "Strategic Culture as a National Security Determinant in Support of the Military Neutrality Concept ", which was carried out by the Strategic Research Institute.

In the CULTURE section, read the story about Mirko Lukanović, a cameraman working for the Military Film Centre "Zastava Film", who has been working for 45 years and turns 65 this year and whose camera lens has saved from oblivion various times, people and events. In the analysis of the renowned historian Dalibor Denda, you will find out about the significance and background of the military coup carried out on 27 March 1941.

There are many reasons why the April issue of the "Odbrana" magazine  should be on your desk as a must-read in the coming days.
