Minister Stefanović meets with Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met today with the newly appointed Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Mr Jan Braathu.

Stefanović congratulated Mr Braathu on his appointment and wished him success in his new role expressing hope that the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and the OSCE would continue to the mutual satisfaction, as in previous years.
He pointed out that security challenges and threats, from terrorism to irregular migration from crisis areas to modern security risks, force the Ministry of Defence to raise all forms of cooperation to the highest level possible, both with international organizations such as the OSCE and neighbouring countries.

The Minister of Defence thanked Ambassador Braathu for the OSCE’s engagement and assistance in the implementation of several projects and pointed out that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces had embraced the gender equality concept as one of their strategic commitments and that they would continue to systematically implement measures to increase the presence of women and their equal participation in carrying out all tasks, with the aim of reaching the gender equalitystandards.

The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Braathu thanked the minister for congratulating him on his new appointment and expressed belief that further cooperation would be based on the already established friendship and partnership.

Mr Braathu described the results of the cooperation so far as positive and called for closer cooperation in the fields of gender equality and capacity building for the participation of civilians in EU peacekeeping missions and project management. He stressed that the OSCE could offer a lot in terms of assistance, advice and expertise.
