Minister of Defence meets with Mayor of Niš

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, talked today to the Mayor of Niš, Ms Dragana Sotirovski, about the continuation of cooperation between this local self-government and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

At the meeting, Minister Stefanović and Ms Sotirovski agreed that a working group should be formed that would work on the reconstruction and extension of the “Dr Vladan Đorđević“ military hospital in Niš, in order to form a second-level hospital for the treatment of both military and civilian insured from Niš and other towns in this part of Serbia.
Minister of Defence and the Mayor of Niš looked at the possibilities of exchanging property between the City of Niš and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to the mutual interest of both parties, primarily facilities and locations that were declared unpromising in the previous decade and later offered for sale, such as the “Marka Oreškovića Street“ military barracks.

The Ministry would exchange the barracks attractively located in the city centre for flats for members of the armed forces or other facilities for the needs of the Serbian Armed Forces. At the meeting, the possibility of exchanging the “Markovo kale“ military complex for a new facility in a different location was also considered.

Stefanović and Sotirovski agree that it is extremely important to continue close cooperation on the project of building housing for members of the security forces which enables members of the armed forces to buy flats at much more affordable prices than the market ones.
