Minister Stefanović talks to members of the Serbian Armed Forces engaged in peacekeeping operations
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, talked today to Serbian peacekeepers engaged in multinational operations. The conversation was held via video call at the defence system’s Operations Centre.
Currently, 274 members of the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged in five UN missions and three EU missions. - We are proud of those people because they are really building a different reputation for Serbia in the world. In addition to missions they participate in and the nature of the missions, they are also our ambassadors and the countries where they are deployed can see what a Serbian soldier is, what the Serbian state is and how we serve our people, and of course, help everybody else to preserve their peace and security – Minister Stefanović emphasized.
The Minister of Defence points out that the missions are characterized by a complex system, and that there is a complex security system that surrounds many of them today. The Minister adds that he is particularly grateful to our peacekeepers for doing their job in such a serious and responsible manner.
- I am grateful to them for having joined these missions, because they did not think about themselves and their security, but about making a name for the Serbian Armed Forces and their country - Minister Stefanović pointed out.
He added that the General Staff and our state were doing everything to keep our soldiers safe.
Minister Stefanović extended holiday greetings to our peacekeepers and told them that, even though their biological families were far away, their big family – the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence always thought of them.In the presence of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Petar Cvetković, the national contingent commander in the mission in the Central African Republic and senior national representatives in peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, Cyprus, Congo, ATALANTA and UNTSO in the Middle East informed Minister Stefanović that the situation was stable and that all members of the Serbian Armed Forces engaged in those peacekeeping missions were safe.
