The commander of the SAF Army LTG Ljubisa Dikovic announced today that Cepotina military base near Bujanovac would be opened on 23 November.

"The conditions provided by Cepotina base are in the rank of the conditions provided by the leading world armies. These conditions provide everything for top organization of the life and work and they are a necessary precondition for a top quality realization of tasks”, as the Commander of the Army the HQ of which is in Nis.

Dikovis also stated that this base near Bujanovac will also serve for training the soldiers for peace operations and for training the members of foreign armies.

“Other units will come here as well to undergo training along with foreign inspectors to train our forces especially those units we have declared as potential peace keeping operations forces”, as Dikovic said.

The commander of the army said that the members of this branch were preparing for participation in peace operations.

"We received special tasks from SAF GS and the Army is now the bearer of preparations of declared forces for participation in peace operations. Certain units were selected for peace operations in the first period, and we have already manned these units, providing them with full organization.

One motorized infantry company, an MP platoon, and an NBC platoon were getting ready to take part in peace operations.

Dikovic also gave his assessment that the state of security in GSZ along the administrative line with KiM was stable and that the army had established excellent cooperation with KFOR and our Police. Much has been done during this year on professionalizing the army, and since the start of 2009, 1100 men were admitted into the army who have undergone selection process and training and are involved into the army units where they will continue further training.

Our candidates are very much motivated to become professional soldiers. A number of them just could not be admitted, yet we are continuing with the process of professionalization”, as General Dikovic remarked.
