Minister Stefanović visits 72nd Special Operations Brigade

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, who visited members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade today at the “Rastko Nemanjić“ barracks in Pančevo, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, said that there was no greater pride and honour for a soldier than to serve in such an elite unit.
– This unit’s path of development shows that it has always been in the places where it was most difficult, but also in the places where our people needed it and where Serbia asked them to be. I can see that even today they remain committed to that path. They are still ready to defend their country at all times and, of course, to be at the service of their people with their knowledge and skills - said the Minister of Defence after the visit.

He pointed out that the common goal is to help equip this unit, so that members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade can have the best possible conditions for training and practising their skills, but also to be able to respond to the call of their homeland and to always be where they are needed the most.
- I am honoured to have had the opportunity to spend a day with them and see their abilities, and of course, to hear firsthand what they need the most and what I can do to help, as the Minister of Defence, in the coming period to make them even more skilful and efficient in performing their tasks - Minister Stefanović emphasized and expressed hope that together they will succeed in achieving these goals.

During today’s visit, the commander of the unit, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, acquainted the Minister of Defence with this unit’s tasks, goals and purpose and talked about its history.

Minister Stefanović was shown a part of the capabilities of members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, tactical and technical display of military equipment, fighting skills training, range shooting, anti-terrorist action in urban and rural areas, rope climbing training, close combat weapons range and the exercise with explosive devices, as well as doing the obstacle course.
At the end of today’s visit, Minister Stefanović visited the 72nd Special Operation Brigade’s memorial room. He pointed out that we must always respect the sacrifice of 24 members of this unit who gave their lives at the request of their homeland.

- We must always remember those heroes, but also take care of their families and show that Serbia appreciates the fact that they gave for it what was dearest to them – their lives – said the Minister of Defence.
