State-of-the-art Motorcycles in the Serbian Armed Forces

Units of the Serbian Armed Forces have been intensively equipped over last several years so after 46 years the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces was equipped with 12 BMW R1250 RТ motorcycles. The new, state-of-the-art and the most modern motorcycles are intended for the tasks of securing certain individuals on the move – escort driving, escort of a person and regulation and control of military and road traffic.

Previous BMW R75 two-wheel motorcycles were used until last year for escort training in the Guard, and previously they had been used in protocol processions of SFRY President Josip Broz Tito.

The new motorcycles are the top of their class when it comes to motorcycle traffic regulation, and they meet all security aspects, and members of the Guard have also received the state-of-the-art protective equipment along with the motorcycles.

The motorcycles possess 125 HP, and they are equipped with special devices for emitting sound and light signals, and the safest ABS pro braking system, which enables abrupt slow-down and acceleration and return to escort regime much faster and safer than the previous motorcycle generations allowed.
It is very important for the safety of the motorcyclists who regulate the traffic to be trained and well equipped. Having that in mind, members of the Serbian Armed Forces executing the tasks on motorcycles are regularly trained and they maintain their motorcycles.

The motorcyclists were engaged on numerous tasks of securing specific individual on move and regulating traffic during visits of foreign delegations, such as the visit from the President of Belarus, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation and high delegation from the People’s Republic of China.

Procurement of the new motorcycles has increased the capability of the units to perform escort and traffic control, which is another way in which the Serbian Armed Forces assist citizens in their everyday life.
