Italian donation to MoD



In line with the protocol of the donation signed between the Ministry of Defense of Serbia and the Ministry of Defense of Italy last year, the DA of the Republic of Italy to Serbia Brigadier General Mauor de Vicentis presented EUR 600,000 worth of equipment to the Head of the Contingency Department Milan Popadic.

The equipment will significantly improve the work of SAF services and in the Contingency Department which deal with the removal and destruction of unexploded ordnance. These are technical devices such as state-of-the-art metal detectors, mine detectors and detectors for detecting aviation bombs and other explosive devices. Furthermore, this equipment included 30 protection pyrotechnical suits. The donation includes another six terrain vehicles equipped with the equipment for deactivation and destruction of unexploded ordnance which will be delivered to Nis by train on 26 October.

The equipment will go to the members of the pyrotechnical units, while the MoD contingency Department will use the most part of the equipment and its operational units. Milan Popadic said on this occasion the following” “This donation means a lot to us who plan, organize and are in charge of these tasks in Serbia. We are now equipped better, and we wile be able to continue our work which is one of the biggest problems”.

DA Mauro de Vicentis expressed his pleasure at seeing an Italian plane land on Nis air port and said: “Italy was the first country with concrete steps in helping Serbia to deal with the consequences of bombing. We hope that other countries will also come forward in this matter.
