The President and the Supreme Commander, Aleksandar Vučić: Infinite gratitude to the Russian expert team

Today, the President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, received representatives of the team of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation who are helping to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and fight the COVID-19 infectious disease, led by Major General Mikhail Chernyshov.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Aleksandar Botsan-Harchenko.

On behalf of the citizens of Serbia and on his own behalf, President Vučić thanked President Putin for his human and statesman’s solidarity, which he showed by sending medical aid to Serbia, although Russia was also affected by the epidemic.

"President Putin's decision is an expression of solidarity, but also a confirmation of extraordinary strategic relations and the closest friendship between the two countries," said President Vučić.

Major General Chernyshov emphasized that while carrying out extensive work in stabilizing the situation, there was an excellent understanding between them and their Serbian counterparts and the assistance of local authorities.

President Vučić expressed his gratitude to the Russian team for providing such important assistance: “By fighting professionally and effectively, you fought for your friends in Serbia from morning till night. Serbia will never forget that. "

He also said that, in cooperation with the Serbian CBRN Units, they helped to put an epidemic under control in the largest hot spots, such as Belgrade, Kikinda, Valjevo, Ćuprija, Niš and other towns.

He added that he was fascinated by their diligence and that the residents of Serbian cities and towns, where the Russian team was engaged, felt more secure.

"Through your work, you have earned the respect of our citizens and deepened the brotherly relations between the two peoples," said President Vučić.

Ambassador Botsan-Harchenko said that President Vučić’s praise means even more because he is known as a man who speaks his mind openly and frankly. The Russian ambassador emphasized that the arrival of this team resulted from the talks between President Vučić and President Putin, but above all from their personal relationship full of respect and trust.

President Vučić sent his greetings to President Putin and the Minister of Defence Shoygu, expressing his hope that they would visit Serbia again soon.
