Minister's interview to Politika daily



In an interview to Politika daily, Minister said that the new law on the Military Security and Military Intelligence Agency, whose draft proposal was adopted at the government’s session yesterday, should provide an effective work of security services and effective and democratic civil control which had not been the case so far.” This law will finally regulate the security-intelligence segment”.


What is the most important novelty?
For the first time we will introduce the institute of general inspector who will be appointed by the Government, and who will have the authority to supervise the work of security services and to control the legitimacy of their work. He will also act preventively against all activities which may breach the law.

Who has supervised these two agencies so far?
The Supervisory Board of the Serbian Government was tasked with supervising the work of the Military Security and Military Intelligence Agencies”, which proved to be a rather old-fashioned way.

Will the authorities of this board be cancelled?

No, this will be just an addition to the existing form of supervision, which will have an expert note to itself, and which would have the authority to delve into the depths of the problem.

Does this end the work on the legal reform of the security sector?

With the adoption of these two act proposals yesterday, and another five laws and two strategies on 6 October entering the parliamentary procedure which will round up the whole legal procedure, which would create a legal framework for the finalization of professionalization.

What laws are we talking about?

The laws on defense, on the military, on the material, work and military duty, law on civil service, on deployment of the army in multinational missions beyond our borders, with the Defense and National Security Strategies entering the procedure as well.

Will there be any downsizing in MoD?
We have been working on the new systematization and formations for months now in order to speed up our work and to make it more effective.
