Military Police Day marked

In the House of Guards in Topcider, 14 September, the Day of the Military Police was marked today. The celebration was attended by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac, ChoD of the Serbian Armed Forces LTG Miloje Miletic, numerous high dignitaries of the ministry of Defense and FG and the retired members of the Military Police.

Congratulating the Day of the Military Police, Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac reminded that in late 1955, when the Military Police was established, the Military Police of the Yugoslav People’s Army, was the only unit of its kind among the eastern bloc countries.

We were much more modern back then, surpassing the countries of the eastern bloc, and there is no reason why it should not be so even today, as Sutanovac said. He also pointed out that forming an Internal Control Section in the Military Police is not a sign of distrust but rather of making the activities of its members more transparent.

The minister said that the Military Police should get al the credit for the support it provided to the organization of yesterday’s air show.

- If we say that you safeguard the President of the Republic, and that me and the Chief of Defense of SAF feel vaery safe, that you are the ones safeguarding foreign delegations which visit our country, then the logical conclusion is that you are vital to our system and are of strategic importance so we have every reason to feel proud.

Modernization and equipping the MP with modern technology is a very important task as well as manning this service with young men and women of great quality. Next year, which marks 55th anniversary of the Military Police, will be an opportunity to mark this with a more serious manifestation and programme with al its members as participants.

LTG Miloje Miletic said that the new tasks and missions of SAF had made the Military Police look differently than a few decades ago. A lot has been done in respect of organizational-formation changes in the Serbian armed forces, while procuring new equipment is something which wile b addressed even more thoroughly in the future.

Chief of the Military Police Brigadier General Djuro Djelic said that this day served as a reminder of more important dates and tradition of the Military Police which dates back to 14 September 1955, while reminding the audience that this service had been in existence since 1897 when the first unit of this kind was formed.

En though this day was marked modestly, we should note that the Military Police is performing its tasks regularly, conscientiously and responsibly. The reform of the Military Police had been done and an organ for internal control of the its work has been introduced. A month ago, as he said, the Center for Training and Advancement of Personnel was opened as he said and that the organizational-formation structure of MP battalion had been upgraded which freed this service of all disadvantages in the organization.
