Latest issue of ODBRANA brings to you



On 23 August, the Minister of Defense, Dragan Sutanovac, laid a commemorative laurel wreath on the memorial complex of “The Battle of Cer” in Tekeris, at the central state ceremony on occasion of 95th anniversary of the Battle of Cer.

On 24 August Dragan Sutanovac, the minister of defense of the Republic of Serbia, visited Bambi kindergarten and “Metropolit Mihailo” elementary school in the village of Trubarevac near Sokobanja, which is being reconstructed within the Humanitarian assistance joint project of the members of the Ohio National Guard and the Serbian Armed Forces.


The graduation ceremony for the March generation of reserve officers was attended by Defense Minister and Deputy Chief of SAF Chief of Defense LTG Mladen Cirkovic, and it was held on 28 August in the barracks of “General Jovan Miskovic” at Banjica.

In an interview to Odbrana magazine , Brigadier General Milan Mojsilovic stresses that Medceur 2009 military medical exercise is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate our capacities and preparedness since a large number of NATO and PfP countries will be present at the exercise. “I believe that this is our way to send a good signal to all and when it comes to the medical capacities we can say that we have much to be proud of”.


This issue’s topic is military morale and ethics. In the course of time, the Serbian army has faced many ethical challenges and changes in system of values while being tasked with different tasks and missions. Should a military person be devoted to his profession, a servant to the state, pater familias or just a well-paid professional? Are the military ethics a subject studied by the cadets of the Military Academy and the code of honor just initial steps in redefining to-date beliefs.

After a shorter period of adjusting, more than 200 students of 134th class admitted into the Military Academy this spring started their basic military training, which will enable them to get basic knowledge of the military profession.

The students of the Military Grammar School will also be able to choose between religious classes and civil education as two elective subjects. The teachers say that these two subjects still represent something new even though they have been thought for two years now.


„Shortcuts”, which will enable Serbia to enter the European Union in a most effective and fastest way, are actually corridors-Corridor 10 and river corridor 7. They will enable Serbia to prove its geostrategic position.

On occasion of the Day of the Military Museum, every year-22 August, the curators of this institution prepare an exhibition of special exclusivity. This 131st anniversary will be marked by an exhibition worthy of this institution of national importance. Namely the exhibition is called “Diplomas and scrolls of the Military Museum collection”.

500th anniversary of Kursedol monastery on Fruska Gora which was bequeathed by the Srem-based Brankovic family. The monastery was set up by despot Djordje Brankovic (bishop Maksim) with the help of his mother Angelina and the Vlah duke Jovan Njegoja Basaraba.

Our aviation faced the greatest challenge at very start of its existence in WWI. Humble resources and lack of experience, however, did not stop the members of the Serbian air force to contribute to the glorious victory on Cer.


Corporal Nenad Stojkovic the best shooter of the Serbian armed forces gained experience in this sports discipline with the full support and help of his commanders and colleagues in the Bujanovac infantry battalion.
