Remembering the Novi Sad raid in World War II





To commemorate the victims of the Novi Sad Raid in World War II, by the “Family” memorial at the Quay of the Victims of the Raid, 78 years since they were killed have been marked today.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, Vojvodina Assembly and Government, the City of Novi Sad, the Embassy of Hungary, the Jewish Community of Novi Sad, the Union of Jewish Municipalities of Serbia, the Roma Nation and the descendants of the victims of the Novi Sad raid were present for the commemoration.

After laying wreaths near the monument “Family”, a wreath was lowered from the River Flotilla boat into the Danube.

The choir of the Cathedral Church “St. George” and the “Hashira” Choir of the Jewish Community participated in the program.

The infamous action of occupation forces in World War II, better known as the “Novi Sad raid”, is one of the most tragic events in the history of the city where the Hungarian occupying fascist authorities killed or pushed alive under the frozen Danube between 1.300 and 1.700 Serbs, Jews and Roma, residents of Novi Sad, including a large number of women, children and the elderly.
