Minister of Defense visited military athletes’ final preparations ahead of the Military World Games

Serbian Armed Forces always go for the victory

- Never have the Serbian Armed Forces entered the Military World Games with a larger or more prepared delegation, and regardless of the fact that we will be competing against the largest Armed Forces in the world, which mobilize not only their members but also the greatest champions of their countries, the Serbian Armed Forces expect that we will win numerous medals competing in this prestigious competition – said the Minister of Defense, Aleksandar Vulin, at the Military Academy Sports Center today, where he visited the final preparations of the teams of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces due to participate at 7th CISM World Military Games in China between 18 and 27 October this year.

While talking to shooters, triathletes and martial arts competitors - judoist, wrestlers, taeqwondoists and boxers, the Minister of Defense wanted to hear their impressions of the preparations and the conditions they were provided for training, but also of the ambitions, which he said were, when it comes to the Serbian Armed Forces – always about winning.

- It is a great honor for us that the uniforms of the Serbian Armed Forces will be worn by Ćulum or Kukolj, as much as Tijana Bogdanović or Nemeš, who are really the best in our country. Among them are also great shooters Arunović and Grgić. We expect that all of them will give a significant contribution to making the Serbian Armed Forces even more respected. All those who attach their future to the Serbian Armed Forces will have the opportunity to play sports, compete and represent their country. I am saying this because it is something that you cannot accomplish too easily in the civilian sphere, but here – in the Serbian Armed Forces, at the Academy, in the Military High School, in the service of the Serbian Armed Forces, you will be able to meet and socialize with the most famous athletes, but also to represent your country at the most prestigious world competitions – said Minister Vulin, reiterating the high expectations related to the Military World Games and the message that all athletes who would wear the uniform of the Serbian Armed Forces will do their best, and that “no one can ask for more of them; however, less than that is absolutely unacceptable, since the Serbian Armed Forces always go for the victory.”
Serbian Sports Association President, Davor Štefanek, having wished the contestants much success in the competition, said that the Institution was completely and fully dedicated to providing preparations for the athletes.

- A year ago we signed an agreement with the Ministry of Defense, and indeed our cooperation has been extraordinary, for which I would especially like to thank Minister Vulin – stressed the celebrated Serbian wrestler, especially emphasizing the fact that part of the sports team of the Armed Forces also includes brothers Nemeš, Kukolj, Andrea Arsović and other top athletes.

Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević, a marathon runner who has already achieved outstanding results, will have the honor of carrying the Serbian flag at the opening of the upcoming competition.

- That fact makes me very proud. This year, the Serbian Armed Forces will participate in the Military World Games for the fifth time, and what will be a novelty this year is that the colors of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces will be defended by our professional athletes, such as the Nemeš brothers, Mihail Dudaš, as well as our award winning shooters and others – said Milosavljević, adding that to stand in front of such a line and to carry the flag of the Republic of Serbia is a great pleasure and honor; also, that for him this was a kind of a crown of a sports career within the professional 25 years long military service.

Mihail Dudaš, Serbia’s most celebrated decathlonist, who will participate in the disciplines of long jump and 110-meter hurdles at the World Games (because decathlon is not an official military discipline), said he was optimistic ahead of the start of the competition.

- We still do not know what the competition is, but we are sure that it will be very strong, as it can be expected that all countries will send their best competitors. It will not be easy, but it is up to us to give the best we can, and to fight for our country as we would in our disciplines in individual competition, with one additional motive – to represent the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Brigadier General Siniša Radović, Director of the CISM Office of the Republic of Serbia, wished all the athletes much success in the upcoming competition, with special thanks to the Minister of Defense, Aleksandar Vulin, the Rector of the University of Defense and the Commandant of the Military Academy, due to whose support the preparations for this prestigious sports competition have been very successful.

The Republic of Serbia is a long-standing member of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), which is organizing the upcoming 7th Military World Games in Wuhan, China, between 18 and 27 October.
