State officials in GSZ



The President of Serbia Boris Tadic visited GSZ today with his associates, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac, Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and others, starting their visit in 1 pesadijski puk Knjaza Milosa Velikog barracks in Vranje, then visiting Usi, the gendarmerie checkpoint and Kadrova cuka SAF base in KosovoOn a visit to a Serbian police (MUP) Gendarmerie base in the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ), Tadi? said that yesterday’s attack, where two Gendarmerie members were wounded, would be treated as an act of terrorism.

He said that Serbia would respond to this attack and any future, similar ones with patience, but decisiveness, adding that those responsible for wounding the two members of Gendarmerie would be prosecuted as terrorists.

The president said that the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medve?a had to bear their share of the responsibility for the situation in the south of the country, as did the international community, which was responsible for the security situation in Kosovo.


President also commented that the army would do everything in the future to protect the Serbian citizens as it had done on many previous occasions, adding that the cooperation between the Police and the SAFD was at a high level.

After touring the Kadrova cuka base, and after hearing the report of LTG Miloje Miletic, SAF GS Chief, and the commander of 4th brigade, Brig. Gen. Milosav Simovic, he stated that it was obvious that the situation in this region, despite occasional incidents was stable.

At the end of the visit the president visited Ceptoina base, where he was acquainted with the progress of the works by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Assistant Minister for Defense for Material Resources Ilija Pilipovic.

On this occasion, Sutanovac expressed his hope that the Cepotina base would be finished by the end of the year, that it is going to be the most modern base in the region, as it now has the area of 35 ha. Further expansion to cover 65 ha is planned, in order to turn it into a training center for peace operations members. The capacity of the base is to house 1000 men, with the total cost of works estimated at 1.6 million RSD , while to date 900. 000 RSD has been invested.
