New issue of ODBRANA

It seems that our leaning toward history, if it is not our chosen occupation, matures with time. Very often, in some mature years, we reach for encyclopaedias, and then for rare and specific editions that bring us a picture of the common past. The family trees, arranging the pictures of ancestors are not rare either. And if we have a closer look at each other, we will see that the core of these trees are – soldiers. Such was our history.

The reliance on tradition is, of course, only one of the pillars of identity. Identity is what distinguishes us and determines us – both as individuals, and as a nation, and as an army. Knowing one's own identity, answering questions according to the instructions of the existentialists: who am I, where do I come from, where am I going to, determines to some extent wider identity as well – the nation we belong to.

In the Standing Point section of this issue we are writing about the identity of the Serbian Armed Forces. Its tradition is certainly important in shaping the identity of the nation. And that identity has a special role in creating a sense of belonging. The sense of belonging in this pyramidal series gives rise to patriotism and, consequently, a strong willingness-morale component. The one that drives us and leads us.

There are few nations that have always been on the right side of history – on the side of the good. There are few small nations that are represented in capital letters in the world history by their sacrifices; and by their war waging skills – always defensive. Our military tradition is part of a culture of memory, a part of national identity.

Focus section features the visit of the Belarusian Minister of Defence and the 9th International Fair of Arms and Military Equipment “Partner 2019”.

The July edition of Odbrana magazine with attractive photographs and interesting articles follows four military exercises: The Fifth Joint Air Defence Live Firings Shabla 2019, Platinum Wolf 18 multinational exercise, mobile camping for the members of the Mixed Artillery Brigade “Fire Jump 2019”, “Slavic Brotherhood 2019”.

Arranging the thematic contents of the July issue of Odbrana, we are writing about Moma Stanojlović Aviation Institute on the occasion of 103 years of its existence, but also the just concluded Partner exhibition where Airbus CEO ceremonially handed over Certificate approving Moma Stanojlović Aviation Institute as Service Centre for Gazelle helicopter.

As our pilots and rocketeers showed their skills in joint firings with members of the armed forces of the Republic of Bulgaria at the Shabla firing range in Bulgaria, in the Global - Parallels section, we are writing about the modern Bulgarian army. Visit of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov, is followed by the text on Belarus – on the corridor of great wars.

In the Culture section we bring texts about the promotion of the novel “The Balkan Line” by Ivan Naumov and the exhibitions of the Šid's landscapes by Sava Šumanović, and in the Sport section we are writing about the “Ingushetia Cup 2019”, which we attended.
