Bridge near Despotovac launched
Minister Sutanovac and SAF GS Chief LTG Miloje Miletic launched the bridge at the village of Strmosten on the Resava River near the town of Despotovac.In his address, at the launch ceremony said that this was another way of showing how MoD and SAF were building civil-military cooperation and were regaining trust and the repute of the Serbian army. “We are glad to be able to help our people and SAF does not want to distance itself from the Serbian people, on the contrary, we want to cooperate as much as possible and help our citizens”, as the Minister said, adding that this was just another bridge where the army was deployed as well as on several roads in GSZ mostly which borders the administrative line with Kosovo.
The interest of youths in serving the army and in the enrollment in the military schools show that the people were regaining trust in the army.
The bridge over the Resava River is SAF’s gift to the people living here, and the municipality of Despotovac paid only one million RSD for putting up the bridge. “This is the right way to show how we can build partner relations. There are other bridges we can build in Serbia, where the Ministry of Defense is even more involved”.President of Despotovac Municipality Malisa Alimpijevic pointed out that this bridge solved one of the biggest infrastructural problems of Gornja Resava region. It will facilitate daily activities for these people. Malisa Alimpijevic also expressed his pleasure at excellent cooperation with the Ministry and SAF.
This bridge is a two-walled, one-storey construction with the elements of “Bailey” bridge, it is 27.5 m long with 40 tons weight limit, constructed by the members of 310th engineering battalion commanded by Lt. Col. Dragan Stanojevic. During the installation works some 120 tons of material were transported, which means that some 6.3 tons of material passed through the hands of every soldier. The works lasted from 21st to 30th June.
