Minister visits MA, MMA and University Village



The Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac visited with his co-workers the Military Academy, MMA and the University village in the residential block 67 of New Belgrade, in order to see for himself the level of capabilities and preparedness of the defense system resources available for 25th Summer University Olympics. In his statement to the media, he said that the defense system had carried out all its tasks with respect to the Olympics, and that the majority of work was completed on time, and that as far as MoD and SAF were concerned, the Summer University Olympics could start.

Minister expressed his hope that the polyclinic equipped by MA would not have much work during the Summer University Olympics, adding that the clinic had met all the necessary standards which were also obeyed in Beijing, congratulating MA on the work and efforts invested. He reminded that more than 1500 MoD and SAF members were engaged on tasks related to the University Olympics, and that 900 members of Police were going to be accommodated in the Military Academy and Military Grammar School facilities. This bespeaks of the defense system as being one of the most significant partners and co-organizers of this most important event our country has ever hosted.

Commenting on the equipment, Sutanovac said that the medical equipment and vehicles the journalists had the opportunity to see, would remain in the possession of the MMA and other military medical centers. He also stressed that the MA stadium was equipped with state of the art race tracks, which makes it a sort of a unique sports venue in the whole of Europe.

Nebojsa Ilic, President of the University Olympics Executive Board thanked the minister and MoD for their assistance in the organization of this great sports event, observing that they have even surpassed the standards of organization.

MMA is tasked with the medical safeguarding of the contestants. For that purpose the polyclinic is located in 15 facilities of the central complex, and the MMA medical teams will be positioned on 44 check points where main sports competing and sports practices will be held (Belgrade 33, Vrsac 1, Novi Sad 1, Indjija 2, Stara Pazova 1, Zrenjanin 1, Smederevo 2, Lazarevac 2 and Obrenovac 1. the clinic has eight specialized services with labs, daily hospital and isolator. In addition to 192 million RSD of budgetary funds, MMA invested additional 126 million RSD from its own funds, while another 37 million RSD from the budget were allocated as well.

Tartan racing tracks was installed in the reconstructed stadium of MA where athletics and judo contests will be held. This is the third such racing tracks in Belgrade after Red Star and Partisan stadiums. 129 million RSD were invested in this, where MA set aside 3 million RSD for the reconstruction of the terraces, while 8 RSD million were invested in the rehabilitation of the sports center.

Final works are ongoing within the MA barracks where contests in archery as well as practices and official contests will be held. The estimated worth of works is 50 million RSD.

The defense system will be providing the logistics support to the University Olympics, Laundry services have been arranged for 22000 sheet sets and 99000 sets of towels. Sixty tents for sports venues will be placed at disposal of the University Olympics. 900 members of the Police deployed during the event will be accommodated in MA and Military Grammar School. SAF will also enable a signaling system between medical, sports and auxiliary facilities wherever this is technically possible.

The Ministry will engage 1592 members (officers, NCOs military and civil servants, MA cadets, and conscripts) The students of the Military Academy as well as the Guard Orchestra will be engaged for protocol activities.
