Downsizing KFOR troops not a good solution

Serbia believes that KFOR forces should not be reduced hastily as full safety has not been ensured yet to the extent needed when it comes to Kosovo Serbs and other non-Albanian citizens, as Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac stated today at the NATO ministerial.

Sutanovac met with NATO Secretary General and heads of missions of a number of NATO member states, saying that he had acquainted Secretary General with official Belgrade concern at the decision to reduce the number of KFOR soldiers.

It is necessary to retain the current number of forces in view of the fact that Serbs and other non-Albanians pose all their trust in KFOR when it comes to security structures in Kosovo, as Sutanovac explained.

“The main topic of today’s ministerial meeting was the possibility of reducing Kosovo troops and transferring it into a “deterrence stage” yet it is upon the NATO states diplomacy chiefs to reach the political decision.
“Sutaniovac added that during his meetings with chiefs of missions, Ambassadors of Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway he got reassurances for Serbia joining EU and entering the white Schengen list.
Furthermore, he took this opportunity to inform Anna Gretta Strem Erricsen that the Serbian Parliament had decided to send SAF medical team as part of the Norwegian peace contingent stationed in Chad, which decision has been welcomed.
