Minister Vulin: We invest in new technologies

- Serbian defence industry, together with the company Jugoimport - SDPR, has exported more than 600 million dollars this year which is by 10 per cent more than in 2017. In 2012 we exported four times less than today. The state will continue investing in new technologies, and we have invested some 9.5 million Euro in “Zastava oružje” alone - stated today Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin during the tour of the company “Zastava oružje” ltd. In Kragujevac.

According to Minister Vulin, when Aleksandar Vučić became minister of defence back in 2012, the defence industry was almost already “written-off”.

- They expected the conduct of a swift and unfair privatisation and that we would have sold and simply destroyed our defence industry just like the best segments of our industry. Owing to him, then the minister of defence, and later as President of Government, the state of Serbia started investing in defence industry and the investments returned and paid off. Some 9.5 million euros that were given to “Zastava oružje” were spent in the best possible way - new machines have been bought and new technology procured. The entire defence industry must invest in new technologies. What we currently have is not enough for us to participate in the world market and precisely this achievement of “Zastava” and other factories of Serbian defence industry is the only right path. Investing in new technology, educated personnel and in better life of each of us makes the things go for the better, the state of Serbia makes investments and owing to such investment Serbian defence industry is making progress and employs 11,700 well paid men. Serbian defence industry is one of strategic branches of our economy and we will continue investing, providing new technologies, thus opening new markets as well - Minister Vulin said.

Director-General of “Zastava oružje” Mladen Petković said that the machines and equipment that were presented on that day had been acquired from the investment funds of Serbian Government.

- We presented the capabilities of the new equipment that is going to be used for increasing productivity in the incoming period, as well as the scope of production and for mastering new products, which will enable our company to appear on new markets, win over new buyers and consequently significantly improve its business results. “Zastava oružje” recently marked the 165th anniversary of existence and our goal is to restore it to its rightful place and make it recognisable again in the world for what it is the best - Petković stated.

Today, the minister of defence toured the company “Zastava oružje” accompanied by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Bojan Jocić, and met the managerial staff and representatives of “Zastava” Unions.

The minister of defence also toured the Exhibition room of product development, room with 3D printer, plant for the production of hunting and sport weapons and plant for the production of machine guns.
