77th anniversary of the Battle of Kadinjača marked

On Kadinjaca, 77th anniversary of the battle in which the whole Workers' battalion perished confronting a much superior fascist enemy, was marked.

Apart from the requiem service, served by the priests of the Serbian Orthodox Church, wreaths on the monument were laid by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Nenad Nerić, representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, the City of Užice, SUBNOR, the descendants of the fallen soldiers and other delegations.

On 29th November 1941, on Kadinjača, about 300 workers, bakers, shoemakers, blacksmiths, saddle and harness makers, peasants from Užice, composing the Workers' battalion, died. They defended their city trying to stop around 3,000 armed Germans, who were heading from Bajina Bašta direction. In this way they enabled the Supreme Headquarters led by Josip Broz Tito to witdraw through Zlatibor, from the then only free territory in Europe, the Užice Republic.

Vice-President of Serbian SUBNOR of Serbia, Academician Željko Zirojevic, State Secretary Nenad Nerić, and Užice Assembly Speaker Branislav Mitrović spoke about the heroic fight of the Workers' Battalion fighters.
