Competition Held in Amateur Radiogoniometry

Traditional competition in amateur radiogoniometry named “Radovan Medić Cup” was held today in the barracks of the same name of the 224th Centre for Electronic Warfare. Commander of the 224th Centre, Colonel Zoran Nenadović, opened the competition and underlined that he was expecting that through the affirmation of the radio-sport, inclusion of younger members of radio-clubs, we would secure capable and trained young cadre of the Serbian Armed Forces.

“Radovan Medić Cup” gives a great contribution to that end, with the support of numerous organisations and radio-clubs all around Serbia. For the first time, the competition included the students of Military Vocational High School, who in the team competition won the first place. The second place was taken by the radio-club “Nikola Tesla” from Sombor and the third went to the Military Police Battalion.

The Centre for Electronic Warfare organises this competition each year in memory of its member First Sergeant Radovan Medić, Commander of radiogoniometry division who died executing his assignment during the first minutes of NATO Aggression, on 24th March 1999. For brave execution of the task, he was posthumously decorated with the Order of merit in the field of defence and security of third degree.

Amateur radiogoniometry, also known as “fox hunting”, represents a combination of technique and sport in which teams on unfamiliar terrain are supposed to find five radio stations in as short time as possible using radiogoniometer - a device by means of which they determine the direction from which the radio station emits the signal.
