The first Serbian Armed Forces Cup opened in Bačka Palanka

The first Serbian Armed Forces Cup has opened today in Bačka Palanka as an event that will take place this weekend in Karađorđevo, where an exhibition of purebred stallions of the Lipizzaner and Arab horses and a review of pairs is to be organised on Saturday, and on Sunday, during the racing day, five trotter and four galloper races will be held.

Pointing out that Karađorđevo horse farm was founded in the late 19th century, today it has 105 nonius horses, an English full-blooded, Lipizzaner and pony breeds, with twenty foals and 15 heads of Arab and English breeds donated from the United Arab Emirates, Colonel Radmilo Kravić, Director of the Directorate for Standard Services of the Material Resources Sector of the Ministry of Defence, reminded the citizens of Bačka Palanka of the success of this military farm in the second half of the 20th century when animals of Karađorđevo were among the leaders in many Yugoslav hippodromes. Such successes enabled the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to revive, after a break of 12 years, the equestrian sports and horse breeding in this region.

- In order to accomplish our ambitious plans, this year, based on the order of the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin, all facilities in the Karađorđevo horse farm were refurbished, tracks were reconstructed, installations were renovated, hippodrome and restaurant facility were refurbished, and stands were renovated. This created all the conditions for holding a regular Serbian Armed Forces Cup event, which returns popularity of the equestrian sports to the Armed Forces and these parts. Animals of the military horse farm will again take part in galloper races all over our country and I hope that they will regain the glory of once very successful animals, Colonel Kravić said.

Branislav Šušnic, Mayor of Bačka Palanka, officially opened the Serbian Armed Forces Cup event, inviting the citizens to spend the next two days in Karađorđevo, just as they did at the end of the last century when they enjoyed galloping races and the victories of their favourites.

The opening of the event was completed by the local cultural and artistic societies “Kosta Abrašević” and “Koreni”, who delighted numerous citiyens of Bačka Palanka with a half-hour programme in the central city square.
