Minister Vulin: EU to take a clear position on migration

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin, who has participated today in the joint meeting of defence ministers of the countries of the Western Balkans and Austrian Minister of Defence Mario Kunasek, held in Graz as part of the current Austrian Presidency of Council of the the EU, asked the EU to take a clear and firm stance in order to clearly serve notice of who is entitled to protection, and said that Serbia would not be a parking lot for migrants.

The problem of migration is not a problem that affects only the EU, but all the countries of the Western Balkans, and Serbia maybe most of all. Serbia will not be a parking lot for migrants and what we need in order to continue to treat migrants in a humane and organized way is that the EU takes a firm and clear position. A position that will clearly serve notice of who has the right to the protection, and who is an economic migrant and is not entitled to such protection, Vulin emphasized.

After signing a joint declaration of the defence ministers of the countries of Western Balkans and Austria, he recalled that Serbia has long proposed that triage of potential asylum seekers be carried out in their countries of origin in order to avoid migrants becoming victims of human trafficking, travelling across the world without having right to stay in the EU, or to be protected by the European laws.

“Serbia will not be a parking lot for migrants, it will continue to be humane and organised, but in the first place taking care of the stability, peace and protection of the way of life of each and every of its own citizens” , he stressed.
