Twice as many applicants for the Academy than last year
The Head of the Military Academy Major General Vidosav Kovacevic stated today that this year twice as many applicants applied for the academy, that is, there are 832 applicants, 205 of whom are girls.
“This number is twice as high as the number of applicants last year when there were 427 candidates, including 107 girls. The Military Academy is enrolling 240 students this year and these numbers say that there will be 4 to 5 applicants for one place”, said General Kovacevic to BETA news agency.
He reminded that the Ministry had just extended the application deadline due to a high number of potential candidates till 15 April.
Last year 50 % of all applicants were excellent students, including 10 valedictorians (awarded the “Vuk Karadzic” award to straight A students).
Explaining such a high number of applicants, general Kovacevic stated that this is the results of an improved image and the status and standard of professional soldiers and academy cadets.
Kovacevic also pointed out that as part of the reform of military education., the Academy has taken a number of measures to become integrated into the civil education system and to get involved in the process of accreditation, which means that the graduates will besides the officer’s rank get a diploma acknowledged in civil institutions.
“The Academy graduate is obliged to stay in the army twice the period of this studies, but after the expiration of this period or in case he doe not want to or is unable to pursue military career, he can seek employment in the civilian structures”, explained general Kovacevic.
